Hi everyone. Bad news. My dog gets euthanised today.
He is 16 years, 2 months and 23 years old. That's very old for a dog.
A month or two ago he vomited poop and peed blood. That was the moment where we accepted he wasn't making it much longer.
He has fog in his eyes, has hearing issues, is incontinent and most likely suffers from dementia, where I sometimes observed him walking up to the second floor (even though he never does that), entering the bathroom and staring outside the window for 20 minutes. We needed to clean the kitchen floor every morning for the last period of time because it doesn't matter how much we would walk him beforehand, he would always pee or sometimes even more in the kitchen.
So we decided to let him go. I have many fond memories of him.
We got him when he was 7 years old, from an animal shelter in Spain where he was treated poorly. His tail was half cut off and he had scars on his legs and nose. His first name was Gavos, and we renamed him Otto when we got him.
The first day he already ran away to quite literally 2 cities ahead (I'm so glad he had been chipped so we knew where to find him), but after the second day he knew where his new home was. 9 years he has had a good life, and I would almost call this place a retirement from Spain for him. We took him on vacations and to the beach, as he would enjoy the places. I remember one time we were walking him in a forest nearby, and he fell in a creek because he thought he could walk on the duckweed. That was funny.
Farewell Otto
