I absolutely love the atmosphere of this piece. Pretty minimal indeed. Some more bass probably could've done wonders, especially after 1:39. I love the low notes of the singing, maybe focus on that on future pieces. Cus the higher notes tend to get out of tune slightly, which is a shame. Like at "the layout of this ROOM" is a beautiful note. But when you get at the "you remove the junk WITHIN ME" that's a bit out of tune. I love the interpretation of the art too

I absolutely love the whole progression this song offers. Also very high production quality, good job with that. Only nitpick is that the outtro is exactly the same as the intro, but that's not even that bad compared to the bigger picture. Also a great interpretation of the art, it works really well with that context

Boy oh boy this is definitely something and a halve. I absolutely love the ever changing melody, but then again I do think that the chord progression could have evolved together with the melody. Because the piano basically never changes, which is a shame if you compare it to the rest (I'd recommend you check out Azali for this). There probably could have been more bass but I'd say this is just fine for the genre. My favorite part definitely has to be the slight violin intermezzo at 1:12-1:19. Because the drums are everpresent except for that one part, that just loads it with emotional energy. Really good stuff right here.

I think that in the intro it probably would have been better if you used a felt piano, like Noir. Right now it starts off immediately very harsh on the ear. I like the strings that you used in this, very realistic and clear in the frequency. During the piece, the piano was kinda starting to annoy me, because like I said about the beginning, it's just very harsh. I absolutely love the break at 2:57. It's very unexpected, but works very well. at 3:45 you have a reverse crash going on that is relatively way lower in quality then the rest of the whole composition, with a very sharp high-end. That's quite a shame unfortunately. During the climax I think that the juxtaposition of the violin against the trombones doesn't work quite as well as you probably initially intended. That's because the trombones sound way more intense than the violin, making the climax loose it's impact at the violin parts. Also that last note of the violin as the outtro is always a good idea. But please for the next time make it last less longer because the high-end was becoming more and more sharp the longer this one note played. Really really high production value as always, but I expected nothing less from you

It seems like you have put Carboluka's feedback to good use. This is very emotional and beautiful. I really feel like it ends very abrupt. A good outtro would work well with this soundscape thing you got going on. I like the subtle tempo automation, cus that makes it feel more dynamic. At some points your violin sound really synthetic though, but I guess that the sound selection is a thing that will improve over time. Great job.

This is awesome work! It really reminds me of super mario galaxy, which is a huge achievement. At 1:15 things start too get a bit muddy unfortunately, probably because of the abundance of supersaws. A bit sad that it gets quite repetitive though. It feels quite dragged out. But the overall quality is just great! Good luck with the AIM!

nitokunffr responds:

Honestly I was thinking the same thing — however there is always room to improve somewhere. I might re-visit this!

Never expected this to get frontpaged either lol… I’ve been away dealing with some family medical matters and tending to work. Life gets hard sometimes.

Really solid AIM submission. The midtempo drops are actually so cool, but I do think that the middle part is dragged on for quite too long. The same can be said about the outtro, which I also find to be a bit empty. I really like this though! Great work

Ohmterra responds:

Yeah, that was one thing I was debating on when making this, since it was my first Ableton project. I think it turned out ok, but I might remake this in the future with FL because I am more used to FL.

Definitely agree with carboluka here. That's an issue that needs work to make it sound a lot better. I absolutely love the drums used in here. But I don't get a lot of "snowgirl" vibes from this except from the snow sfx in the beginning. THAT ENDING IS REALLY GOOD THOUGH WOW

Czyszy responds:

It's not as much of an issue as it is an eccentric decision. One of the things that I like about 90's prog (eg. "Roine Stolt - The Flower King", "IQ - Subterranea", "Echolyn - Suffocating The Bloom" et al.) is those raw primitive early digital keyboard era sounds. It's a pity, that I had to learn it the hard way, that it's not quite something generally cherished. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I like the chill atmosphere this has. Try to work more on adding fx to your vocals, cus they seem a bit too dry in the mix. Speaking about the mix, it's a bit thin overall. I like the vocals, but the lyrics seem really random. I appreciate that you used your own lavta in this, it works well with the song.

SoulSecure responds:

What do mean by thin? Like needs moar bass? If you you mean like instrument wise, it's supposed to be minimalistic, I actually thought I went too far by putting all those effects on the lavta.

I don't think I EQed the vox correctly. I realized only after listening to this and some of my other songs that I've been mixing too much of the bass out of my voice making it sound like its coming out of a radio, so sorry about that.

The lyrics tell a story but if you don't get it, you probably wouldn't "get it" if I explained it.

As a song this is pretty cool, but I think that the relation to the artwork isn't really great. I would have expected something more frantic and chromatic, like actual circus type music. I'd say try to listen to someone like circus contraption and learn from that. Right now this is somewhat sad and emotional with a dance vibe. I like the concept of this though. Just not the correct artwork imo.

Trackers responds:

Glad you like it. I had more of a gypsy illusionist act in my mind rather than the happy clowns when this came out of my brain.

Edit: Oh crap I just realised I didn't update my description after I uploaded... only my 2nd entry is done.
